Salini Impregilo
In 2014, Salini Impregilo began improving internal communications by developing a Group intranet and launching initiatives to involve personnel on- and off-line. The project, which was designed by Cultur-e and developed and managed daily for over four years, has become a best case for the sector and has won various international awards, as well as allowing the company to grow significantly thanks to a mobile-friendly, multilingual and social work tool.
Context
Salini Impregilo is an international group that develops large engineering works worldwide. It was founded in 2014 through the fusion of two companies with different internal procedures, employees of various nationalities across 50 countries and often working on isolated sites far from urban centres. The two previous intranets were mere document repositories and were only in Italian. The new intranet was an urgent, strategic requirement.
Salini Impregilo’s top management gave us just a few months to develop not only the advanced work platform, but also what would become the main tool for internal communications to guide the process of integration that had just begun, create a new corporate culture, and share the rich internal know-how through a bottom-up process, developing a community between the Italian offices and personnel around the world.

Developing a Portal, a Community and Content
In 2014, we completed the Italian-language intranet in just 4 months. Over the next 6 months, we produced the English version and integrated both with social functions, as well as implementing parallel on- and off-line promotion and awareness-raising campaigns.
From 2015 to 2018, we conducted corrective maintenance, implementing 3 restylings and adding new functions. Moreover, we took care of the daily management of news, specials and multimedia content, social initiatives and live events for the inauguration of work sites, conferences and company anniversaries, as well as coordinating the work community, monitoring the intranet and providing guidelines.
The Intranet is an International Best Case
The new intranet received various international awards, including an honourable mention at Ragan’s Employee Communications Awards 2014 (Intranet Category, Best Design Section), third place at the Intra.NET Award 2015 (User Experience Design & Content Management Category), placed amongst the top-5 intranets at the European Excellence Awards 2015 and amongst the top-10 global intranets at the Nielsen Intranet Design Award 2016.
