Webuild

In 2014, Webuild (the Group born that year from the merger of two large companies, with the name Salini Impregilo) began strengthening internal communication through the development of the corporate intranet and on/offline employee engagement initiatives. The project we conceived, developed and managed daily for 4 years has become a best case in the sector, winning numerous international awards. The platform is mobile-friendly, multimedia, multilingual and social, supporting corporate transformation and strengthening cohesion between global teams.

Context

Webuild is one of the leading international groups in the large infrastructure sector, engaged in the construction of strategic projects around the world; in 2014, it faced the challenge of integrating employees of over 50 nationalities, often operating in isolated construction sites. The previous intranets, limited to the document repository and available only in Italian, were insufficient to support the new corporate structure. The created intranet was therefore conceived as an internal communication tool that played a crucial role in promoting the unified corporate culture and accelerating the post-merger transformation process. This vision was reaffirmed during the group’s 2020 rebranding, emphasising three core pillars: innovation, sustainability, and collaboration.

Portal, content and community development

For this project, we completed the new intranet in Italian in just 4 months, followed in the next six by the English version and social features. At the same time, online and offline promotion and engagement campaigns were launched. Between 2015 and 2018, the project continued to evolve with three restyling, new features, daily content management, social initiatives and live events, including those for the inauguration of construction sites and company anniversaries. Continuous monitoring allowed targeted interventions to improve the effectiveness of the platform and encourage the sharing of company know-how.

The intranet is an international best case

The new intranet has received prestigious international recognition: honourable mention at the Ragan’s Employee Communications Awards 2014 (Intranet category, Best Design section), third place at the Intra.NET Award 2015 (User Experience Design & Content Management category), among the top 5 intranets at the European Excellence Awards 2015 and among the top 10 intranets in the world according to the Nielsen Intranet Design Award 2016.
